Regulatory Scientist (CRD Band 5)

You will be part of a team that is delivering HSE objectives in support of the UK’s Exit from the European Union. At CRD, we work with one goal in mind – to protect human health and the environment from the effects of potentially harmful substances.

To help us meet these challenges, we require a number of ambitious Band 5/SO regulators to join our team.

You will get hands on experience of the work we do from day one. Enabling you to gain knowledge in the regulation of chemicals and gain valuable experience in regulatory science, working with UK/EU legislation, communicating with stakeholders, working through strategies for our future, scientific writing and development of skills in regulatory decision making. CRD also offers stakeholders a comprehensive conference and events training programme and the roles will include attendance at our UK events for training purposes.

These posts are through-graded from Band 5 (SO) to Band 4 (HSO). You will join a structured training programme, which over the course of a minimum of 18 months, will introduce you to all the elements of your role, enabling you to gain in depth knowledge of the regulation of chemicals and develop valuable experience in regulatory science.

Regulatory Scientist Team Leader (CRD Band 3)

Working as a team leader, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of scientists and responsible for technical input to regulatory programs on chemicals, biocides and pesticides to support regulatory decisions in the UK. You will be expected to explain your decisions internally and externally, to expert committees, other government departments and relevant stakeholders.

Trainee Inspector of Health and Safety (FOD/CD)

The Health and Safety Executive exists to help prevent work-related death, injury and ill health. Our inspectors play a critical role on the frontline in the workplace; protecting people by preventing and investigating incidents and enforcing the law.

As an inspector you will be involved in a range of activities, notably inspections and investigations. Where appropriate, you will use various legal processes such as notices and prosecutions to secure health and safety compliance. We operate a cost recovery scheme known as Fee for Intervention (FFI). Whilst you won’t be involved in the collection of the fee, you will need to notify the duty holder at the time of their inspection and/or investigation if that visit is going to be cost recoverable and why.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing Capability Lead

We want to create the conditions for all colleagues to be healthy, safe and well at work. To ensure we can achieve this aim we have launched an improvement programme to strengthen how we lead Health Safety and Wellbeing through our people then underpin with effective systems.

As the Health Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Capability Lead you will enable the conditions at HSE for our colleagues to be safe, healthy and well at work through the development of a new business partnering approach in our corporate team. You will play a critical role in the transformation and governance of HSE HSW capability (our people; our products; and our services).

You will work closely with the HSW Programme Lead to balance the delivery of HSW improvement activities with the need to manage core business advice and services. We are looking for a technical imaging and visualisation specialist to join our Advanced Imaging Solutions (AIS) team. Working within the Major Hazards Capability Group, this is an excellent opportunity to use your skills to contribute to innovative work to support our incident investigations, and valuable HSE and industry research projects to directly improve the lives of people in their workplaces.

You can expect to contribute to a wide range of projects within the health and safety sector, especially HSE incident investigation support. You will also be expected to be involved in work for industrial clients.

You will be part of a team of imaging specialists but you will also collaborate with technical experts across many other disciplines.

Apprentice

If you are serious about working in a business administration role and can show the required determination to complete your apprenticeship programme then this is the role for you.

Our Apprenticeships combine practical on the job training whilst working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration.

As part of your apprenticeship you will need to gather work based evidence, whilst working alongside experienced staff. You will gain job-specific skills as well as an understanding about the world of employment.

You will be based in our Science Division at our research laboratory and unique outdoor testing facilities, in Buxton, Derbyshire. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and practical skills to contribute to innovative work to support industry, incident investigations and valuable research projects to directly improve the lives of people in their workplaces.

For the right candidate, we are often able to support further study on a part time basis working towards an HND or an undergraduate degree as appropriate.

Explosive Atmospheres Scientist

We are looking for a qualified scientist or engineer to join our Explosive Atmospheres Team in the Major Hazards Group.
