Well Engineering and Operations Specialist Inspector

The role offers a wide scope and draws on numerous skills and experiences. You’ll work with a team of technical specialists to make sure onshore and offshore engineers can work safely. You’ll make inspections, investigate accidents, prepare reports and provide specialist advice throughout the industry. On top of this, you’ll make valuable contributions to industry-wide standards and guidance, helping to secure safe practice for years to come. Naturally, you’ll need experience in well engineering, including planning and managing drilling operations at a senior level. Strong communication skills are also key, as you’ll be expected to influence decisions at all levels of the organisations you’ll regulate. Analysis and sound judgement based on evidence are important elements of the role too, and you should be able to easily collaborate with different teams. You should also have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or earth science discipline or equivalent experience in well engineering, both onshore and offshore. Chartered status with the Engineering Council and Corporate membership of an approved professional institution (or working towards both of these) are essential.

Risk Assessor Specialist

This is a challenging role that offers a wide range of work but also the chance to take on specialist training and influence whole industry sectors towards safer practice. As a Risk Assessor Specialist, you’ll work alongside other specialists to carry out risk analysis, provide expert advice and develop policy guidance across a variety of essential industries. You’ll also represent HSE at appeals and enquiries and liaise with diverse stakeholders including industry figures, local planning authorities and other government departments.

As this is a highly specialised role, you’ll need sound experience in assessing risk within the onshore major hazards industry. This includes using current risk assessment techniques and tools, along with knowledge of major accident hazard modelling. But you’ll also need to evidence analytical skills and impactful decision making in your career so far, as well as excellent communication skills. You should have a degree (or equivalent) in a science, engineering, mathematics or another relevant subject area, along with Corporate Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution, or the capability to work towards membership.

Radiation Specialist

This is a varied and challenging role that offers not only a wide range of work but the chance to take on specialist training and even shape the UK’s standards and guidance on radiation protection. As a Radiation Specialist, you’ll carry out inspection work with both ionising and non-ionising radiation. Working alongside other HSE inspectors and specialists, you’ll liaise with a huge number of employers and organisations, making sure everyone adheres to national standards and analysing issues where required. You’ll also provide expert advice to support inspections and enforce the law, but also guide other departments and professional bodies towards better standards.

As this is an expert-level role which is highly specialised, you’ll need experience in radiation protection, providing advice on radiation regulations and analysing radiation risks. But just as much, it’s about having strong communication skills to influence change at any level, using your initiative to make sound judgements under pressure, and being able to work collaboratively to secure the best outcomes. You should also have a degree (or equivalent) in physical science or a related discipline, membership of the Society for Radiological Protection (or be a Registered Clinical Scientist), and hold a full UK driving license. Please also bear in mind that this role involves short periods working from home.

A degree or equivalent qualification in electrical, electronic, or control engineering is essential, along with membership of a relevant professional institution and a full UK driving license.

Occupational Health Inspector

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Project Manager Group. The team is largely focused on delivering Health and Safety Science based projects to customer requirements, time and cost. You can expect to contribute to a diverse range of projects, and be involved in both commercial and HSE work. You will be part of a team of PM specialists and will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Your role as a Project Manager will be to manage a portfolio of science based health and safety related projects. The projects will be a mix of both HSE (internal) and Commercial projects, of medium to high complexity/risk.
