We are looking for a new team member to support the Asbestos Proficiency Testing (PT) Team activities undertaken within the Exposure Measurement Portfolio, which in turn forms part of the Health Capability Group within HSE’s Science Division.

You will undertake a Level 3 Customer Service apprenticeship as part of this role. We require an individual who is serious about working in a split customer service/science technician role and can show the required determination to complete their apprenticeship programme.

You will be involved in predominantly commercial work, assisting with key administrative duties, sample production, scheme development and delivery. You will be part of a small team and will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. The role involves working with asbestos in a controlled and safe working environment

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study towards a related vocational qualification, assessed in the workplace by our training provider. As part of your apprenticeship you will need to gather work based evidence, whilst working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills as well as an understanding about the world of employment. All assessments and teaching will take place on the job.

This is an opportunity to join HSE’s Economic and Social Analysis Team (ESAT): we are a small and friendly team which provides high-quality, evidence-based advice covering the full breadth of HSE’s remit and produces analysis and research that is used across the UK Government, industry, academia and in international bodies like the OECD and EU.

As most accidents and work-related ill health are related to human behaviour, an understanding of the drivers of human behaviour, and how human behaviour can be changed in ways that lead to better outcomes for the workforce, is vital to HSE’ s effectiveness.   In order to provide sound evidence-based answers to these questions and more, we collaborate with other analysts and specialists inside HSE, including statisticians, economists, psychologists, medics and policy advisors.

We also conduct some analysis on a commercial basis as part of HSE’s wider commercial strategy, giving our analysts the opportunity to deliver work for the private sector, universities and the governments of other countries.

We are looking for a scientist with an understanding of the effects of hydrogen on metallic and other materials to join our Engineering Materials Team in the Major Hazards Group. This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills to contribute as part of a team to valuable industry research projects aimed at preparing the way for the future UK Hydrogen Economy.

You will be part of a team of specialists and will also collaborate with technical experts across many other disciplines.

This exciting two-year fixed term appointment opportunity will be based in the Science Division of the HSE at our research laboratory in Buxton, Derbyshire. There may be the opportunity to extend the appointment beyond two years for exceptional performance in the role.
