Recruitment Administrator (Band6/AO)

We are looking for some Band 6 Recruitment Administrators to join our team. You will play an important role to help deliver this ambition, by providing administrative support to recruitment campaign managers.

As well as externally advertised roles, you will help to deliver high volumes of internal vacancies (within HSE and across Government departments), ensuring consistency and compliance with legislative and Civil Service policies and procedures. Capacity Manager (Band 4)

We are currently looking for a Capacity Manager to manage the capacity of HSE’s IT estate, coordinating all performance monitoring and forecasting to ensure that the IT estate has sufficient capacity for the number of users, applications and business activities in its change programmes and workforce plans.

You will coordinate the production and analysis of business, service and component capacity reporting and will develop a comprehensive suite of organisational reports that can support the IT strategy and proactive change activity. Problem Manager (Band 4)

We are looking for a Problem Manager to join our growing team.

As the Problem Manager you will manage the lifecycle of all Problems on the HSE’s IT estate from first identification through formal investigation to resolution/remediation.

You will proactively manage Problems, determining when the root causes of incidents should be tackled as a Problem and ensuring that Problems are recorded, categorised and prioritised for investigation and fixing.

You will coordinate with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Line teams during the lifecycle of a Problem, determining how and when fixes should be developed and implemented to correct the Problem (Preventative Maintenance). The Problem Manager will coordinate with the Change Management process to ensure that fixes are applied in a timely fashion.

You will be very user/customer focused, mindful of the impact Problems have on business processes and activity, and ensuring communication with all interested parties is paramount throughout the management of an Problem.

Regulatory Health and Safety Trainers (HRD B3/SEO)

HRD helps HSE achieve this through the delivery of its in-house Regulators Training Programme (RTP). All new regulators are required to undertake and pass the Post Graduate Diploma in Regulatory Occupational Health and Safety (the Diploma) or undertake the Specialist Training Programme (STP). These programmes blend digital training learning with face to face tutorials and workshops and field based experiential learning. We have worked hard to adapt how we deliver both programmes to reflect the different ways we have found ourselves working in during the pandemic. Our delivery now consists of a mixture of digital learning hosted on our own learning management system TEDI (Training, Education, Development and Inspiration), face to face (current restrictions permitting) and virtual classrooms in MS Teams.

We are looking for experienced health and safety trainers to join the team and help deliver these vitally important programmes. Your role as an Operations Development Trainer (ODT) will be to work closely with the Operations Development Managers, who are experienced regulators, to contribute to the ongoing review of the programmes to ensure that they represent the absolute best in regulatory training.

Explosives Specialist Inspector (SEO/Band 3)

Our Explosives Safety specialists ensure employers across Great Britain – a whole range of essential industries with thousands of workers – to work safely. In this role, you can utilise your considerable technical knowledge and practical experience to influence not only individual employers but whole industry sectors.

You’ll work alongside other HSE technical and regulatory specialists to ensure work activities are operating within the legislative framework by various regulatory interventions including inspecting, investigating and providing advice.

Your work will make the most of your experience – whether that’s inspecting an explosive processing plant, helping an employer understand the right controls to have in place, or contributing to the development of industry standards and guidelines. The balance of an individual’s key responsibilities will depend on their role within the Unit which could be either as an explosives specialist in an operational team or as an explosives topic specialist in a portfolio role. As you can see this role will broaden your knowledge and your professional credibility like no other role can.

From day one, you will be supported by your manager and colleagues to understand your role in HSE, develop your skills and support you in your continuing professional development. All of the locations include specialist and regulatory colleagues providing a wider support network. For the legal requirements of the role, you will be enrolled on the Specialist Training Programme (STP). You will receive appropriate training and will be required to study for and successfully complete a legal assessment.

Technical Support with Joinery Skills – Fixed Term Appointment for 2 years

We are looking for a someone with joinery skills and a practical aptitude to join our technical support team. The team provides support to the Science Division of HSE in a number of ways, including:

• Building and manufacturing experimental rigs and facilities
• Collecting evidence from incident sites across the UK and storing it appropriately
• Supporting experimental programmes, taking part on test days as appropriate
• Maintaining equipment and facilities used by the division
• Using lifting and other heavy equipment across our Buxton site

Based in the Major Hazards Group within Science Division, the work of the team contributes to incident investigations, research projects for HSE, other government departments and commercial clients. There are a range of teams in the Major Hazards Group including mechanical engineers, engineering materials specialists, fire and explosion, hazardous materials and explosives experts. You will be working with people from all these teams to deliver projects and support testing. Much of the work in the group is focused on the safe introduction of green energy technologies, including batteries and hydrogen.
