We are looking for a someone with joinery skills and a practical aptitude to join our technical support team. The team provides support to the Science Division of HSE in a number of ways, including:

• Building and manufacturing experimental rigs and facilities
• Collecting evidence from incident sites across the UK and storing it appropriately
• Supporting experimental programmes, taking part on test days as appropriate
• Maintaining equipment and facilities used by the division
• Using lifting and other heavy equipment across our Buxton site

Based in the Major Hazards Group within Science Division, the work of the team contributes to incident investigations, research projects for HSE, other government departments and commercial clients. There are a range of teams in the Major Hazards Group including mechanical engineers, engineering materials specialists, fire and explosion, hazardous materials and explosives experts. You will be working with people from all these teams to deliver projects and support testing. Much of the work in the group is focused on the safe introduction of green energy technologies, including batteries and hydrogen.

The Committee comprises three non-executive members of the HSE Board, one of whom serves as Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, and one independent member. The independent Audit and Risk Committee Member will provide specialist and independent input into the Committee, helping to ensure that HSE is managed in a manner that is risk aware, effective and is a model of good corporate governance.

As an independent ARAC member you are expected to:

• Engage with relevant Executives to achieve a full understanding of the HSE’s functions and provide advice outside the confines of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee.
• Prepare, attend and actively contribute to quarterly Audit and Risk Assurance Committee meetings
• Contribute impartial advice on the adequacies of assurances provided on financial and risk management, internal controls, the outcomes of assurance activity and on any implications for corporate governance.
• Constructively challenge the assurances provided and draw on ways in which those assurances could be developed from your own professional background, while respecting executive responsibility.
• Maintain familiarity with the HSE internal and external landscape to enable appropriate challenge and relevant assurance.
• Maintain an open and professional line of communication and relationship with all key stakeholders including the Accounting Officer, Director of Finance, Head of Business Assurance and external and internal auditors.
• Promote a culture of ethical awareness, integrity and accountability.
• Respect confidentiality and declare conflicts of interest.
• Take part in corporate initiatives and training as required, to support the continuous improvement of HSE.
• Act in accordance with accepted standards of behaviour in public life
• Ensure that the ARAC acts as an effective body which adds value to HSE and acts in best interests of wider public.

We are looking for a motivated, dedicated and experienced information disclosure specialist to join the team. You will play an important role in ensuring that HSE provides professional and legally compliant responses to any requests for information, ensuring that any appeals are managed in accordance with the law.

As a Senior Disclosure Assurance Officer, you are a specialist in HSE’s information disclosure service.  You are responsible for managing the quality and performance of the service and ensuring that HSE’s information disclosure community have the skills and knowledge to follow the procedures accurately and consistently.

As a subject matter expert, you will advise colleagues and manage information disclosure appeals and internal reviews.  You will foster a culture of continuous improvement, collating feedback on improvement opportunities and co-ordinating with team leaders and managers to develop the service so that it is effective and efficient and complies with all information disclosure legislation.
