Engineering Materials Scientist

This exciting opportunity will be based in the Science Division of the HSE at our research laboratory and unique outdoor testing facilities, in Buxton, Derbyshire.

We are looking for a scientist to join our Engineering Materials Team in the Major Hazards Group. This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills to contribute to valuable HSE and industry research projects to directly improve the lives of people in their workplaces and be part of a team developing a new technology area for our organisation.

This breadth of expertise underpins our particular strength in creating multidisciplinary teams to support major incident investigations and policy development, as well as undertaking high quality research.

 

Instrumentation and Testing Engineer/Scientist

This exciting opportunity will be based in the Science Division of the HSE at our research laboratory and unique outdoor testing facilities, in Buxton, Derbyshire.

This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills to contribute to innovative work to support HSE’s incident investigations, and valuable HSE and industry research projects to directly improve the lives of people in their workplaces.

You will have specific responsibilities for specifying, designing, and implementing instrumentation solutions for bespoke mechanical testing programmes, and capturing/logging the associated data.

Policy Roles

We have positions available for an EU Policy & International Co-ordinator (post A) and a Better Regulation & Policy Co-Ordinator (post B)

Post A – You will coordinate policy on key Government priorities including international trade and advise across HSE on EU business.

Post B – You will coordinate HSE’s contribution to the Government’s better regulation agenda and help provide assurance to HSE’s EU exit programme and Policy Profession.

As part of your role (both posts) you will co-ordinate HSE’s international trade policy across a number of areas including technical barriers to trade and sustainability.  You will represent HSE across Whitehall on trade policy matters whilst managing HSE’s work on current and future EU business including working with policy areas on new health and safety initiatives.

Programme Management Office Manager

To ensure we can continue to meet current and future challenges, there will be greater investment in implementing news ways of working and implementing digital technologies. We are therefore reinforcing in-house capability to give us the skills and experience we need to take HSE forward.

We have also opted to move to a single merged PMO (Programme Management Office) for delivering business improvement, digital and IT change, with a view to expanding its scope and coverage, eventually becoming a corporate P3MO (Portfolio, Programme and Project Management Office) for cross cutting and/or significant programmes.

You will play a significant role in supporting the Head of the PMO in implementing a corporate PMO model, whilst supporting the business grow its programme and project management maturity.

You would be predominantly office based (at your closest HSE office), albeit with flexibility to work from home. There would be a requirement to frequently travel to Bootle at least once a week.

IT Business Partner

You will join the existing IT Service Management Team as head of a Business Relationship Team. You will establish and embed Business Partnering/Relationship Management best practice principles. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic role at the core of HSE’s Business partner/relationship activities.

Why is this role so important to HSE?

As ITF’s IT Business Partner you will be responsible for acting as the liaison between the HSE divisions and ITF to align HSE’s IT strategy to Divisional plans.

We are also currently radically transforming the way we deliver our IT services as part of an IT modernisation programme. The Business Partner Model will help deliver, measure and evaluate these services in partnership with HSE Divisions

Senior Software Developer

Our Data Science and Software Development teams current work includes land use planning, probabilistic matching to support regulatory intelligence, risk analysis of operational data, software for physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling and the Discovering Safety programme; involving the development of new techniques to analyse data and aggregate data from sources worldwide to help prevent future accidents occurring. Our work is delivering analysis, data and software that has a significant analytical or scientific component, working closely with many internal and external stakeholders.

The Senior Software Developer role is intended to facilitate the delivery of high quality scalable solutions to internal and external customers and help maintain and grow the team’s capacity, expertise and efficacy.

We are primarily looking for expertise in software development, with the ability and interest to work as part of agile teams and help improve the teams expertise and ability to work with our customers. An interest in databases and data analysis would be beneficial as much of our work is in this area. Our work is very varied work and this role would be ideal for someone who is looking for an interesting challenge and who wants to use their expertise to help direct the future of our work. We work as a flexible agile DevOps team collaboratively working on projects as required to successfully deliver to customers.

This frontline post requires candidates to be able to deal with challenging and sometimes difficult conversations that can be emotional and highly charged. The team have procedures and support mechanisms in place to handle such calls, but candidates will need to be resilient and confident.

We are recruiting an experienced or newly qualified Management Accountant providing strong leadership to a small support team. You will have excellent communication, analytical and decision-making skills which will enable you to operate in a dynamic environment working to tight deadlines.

You will support the Head of Finance, providing expert advice on a range of financial and accounting issues, ensuring HSE complies with HMT’s consolidated budgeting guidance.
