Structural Engineer – Technical Strategy Lead

The Building Safety Regulator is seeking technically qualified professionals to help shape the future of building safety in England. Senior Property Manager

HSE’s Estates and Facilities Management portfolio is extensive, with 25 offices in England, Scotland and Wales and a world-class Science and Research Centre near Buxton, England. Our offices range in size from supporting a half dozen staff in Inverness, to our head office in Bootle, Merseyside which has capacity for over 3,000 people. Our Estate Strategy includes retaining a regional presence in support of our GB regulatory role and working closely with the Government Property Agency to continue to drive best value for money for HSE.

You will be one of three senior property managers with direct responsibility for the management of the relevant allocated regions; delivery of associated estate events and projects; monitoring of facilities management performance; identifying continuous improvements and contributing as a member of the senior estates team.

Please note your portfolio for this role will initially cover our Northern sites from Birmingham up to Inverness and there is a requirement to travel regularly to the locations within your portfolio. Due to a team restructure, and for operational requirements, you may also be asked to cover another region in the future, or to assist at any of our locations on an ad hoc basis. Attendance will also be required at our Bootle HQ for team meetings.

Knowledge and Information Manager

Principal Fire Scientist/Engineer

The Science Division (SD) of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are looking for experienced scientists or engineers, to take a senior role in our Fire Safety Team within the Major Hazards Group. The teams main focus is supporting HSE in understanding a variety of combustion-related topics through the delivery of theoretical and practical research (both lab-based and large-scale). Outputs are used to develop evidence based policy and guidance.

Examples of recent work include the safe use of hydraulic fluids in mines, fire spread in insulation foams, evaluation of fire detectors and combustion hazards related to the use of bio-digesters. The team also supports HSE in its regulatory function by providing scientific support to HSE inspectors, often following industrial incidents. In recent years these have included tunnel and mines fires, warehouse fires, fork lift truck fires and timber frame fires.

The team also works closely with the Building Safety Regulator, delivering research and providing support to this important area of HSE’s remit. Our work is not limited to supporting HSE’s policy and regulatory functions. You can expect to contribute to a diverse range of projects in the health and safety sector including research projects, consultancy or delivery of training for commercial customers and other government departments.

Office Manager – Chief Inspector of Building Office

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to work as the Office Manager in the Chief Inspector of Buildings Office (CIBO). Senior Applied Analysis and Insight Advisors

HSE inspects certain workplaces and buildings. We also reach employers and workers through our guidance, communications, campaigns and through stakeholder organisations.

There are three permanent Band 3 (SEO) posts available in the Applied Analysis and Insight Group (AAIG), which is part of Engagement and Policy Division (EPD).

Two posts are based in AAIG’s Applied Regulatory Information unit – with a focus on the analysis and application of data and evidence to HSE operations. One post is based in AAIG’s Research and Insight unit with a focus on market and social research to understand and provide solutions to business issues.

All posts share the following attributes:

  • Generating and actively supporting the application of actionable findings to the design, delivery and improvement of HSE operations, policy, products, services and communications.
  • Supporting AAIG and EPD to commission and be effective end-users for research, analysis and science that is delivered by wider HSE experts.
  • Managing and delivering your own portfolio of work and projects, plus work on larger projects alongside colleagues. Guidance will be provided by both your managers and wider colleagues.
  • Supporting and guiding other colleagues (especially more junior colleagues) in their work.
