Development Operations (DevOps) in HSE is a greenfield proposition. Major change programmes, that will deliver digital services based upon cloud technologies, are in their early stages, and a DevOps capability is required to support all development and live operational activities. This is a unique opportunity to build a new team from the bottom up, establishing the processes, practices, and standards, and choosing the technologies for environments and toolsets.  Whilst HSE’s IT estate is mostly an on-premise architecture at present, the move towards cloud-based services will take HSE from its current position through a hybrid state towards a cloud-only target over several years.  Building performant, secure and resilient digital services that can be maintained economically and efficiently will be at the heart of this new capability’s work.  These outcomes represent an exciting proposition for any ardent technologist and leader.
