HSE is establishing a new Building Safety Regulator (BSR). The development and implementation of the legislative framework and operational arrangements to create the BSR offer a unique opportunity to contribute to, and experience working in, an exciting and high-profile area of Government policy that aims to ensure that people living in high-risk buildings are both safe and feel safe.

BSR will serve as a lasting tribute to those who have lost their lives due to poor and substandard buildings and will help ensure tragedies of such proportions as Grenfell are consigned to the past. Over the coming years, as the powers of BSR increase, we will continue to build our team ensuring that high-rise buildings are safer than ever.

As head of access you will be a senior leader on technical buildings issues, focusing on access and structural safety to lead on development of technical policy advice relating to Building Regulations and building standards. You will work together with other technical policy colleagues focusing on other areas of the building standards and, with other government departments when projects and programmes of work cover multiple specialisms.

You will also be responsible for activities related to managing technical risk in the built environment and working across the regulator with external partners to ensure risks are being appropriately prioritised and mitigated.

Learning and Development Specialist

Learning and Development Officer

You will be able to influence organisations to bring about improvements and be decisive and clear about what is needed. In many cases you will need to be able to publicly explain and defend your findings and opinions against robust and occasionally aggressive challenge, in Criminal Courts or at Coroner’s Inquest.
