Senior DevOps Engineer

We have an opportunity to recruit a Senior DevOps Engineer to join the DevOps Team in the ITS Division. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will thrive and enjoy working openly, collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on one or many projects. You will be supporting existing cloud-based services, assisting in the design, and delivery of new cloud-based services as we expand HSE’s digital services in Azure, adhering to GDS principles and using Agile principles.

HSE’s Development Operations (DevOps) Engineering teams, comprising both internal and outsourced capabilities, delivers support to major digital and technology services change programmes transforming HSE, and implement continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) for services once live.  The team will design, establish and operate the processes, architectures, and services that will deliver all of HSE digital and technology services.  The team will ensure that new cloud-based technologies are secure by design and remain secure during operations, protecting HSE’s data and users from cyber-attack and unauthorised loss.

To deliver Development Operations (DevOps) Engineering for all HSE cloud-infrastructure services ensuring that all technologies (cloud-network, cloud-hosting (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS), cloud-storage and cloud-security) remain available, performant to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and relevant to business requirements. Deliver the DevOps Engineering support to major digital and technology services change programmes transforming HSE, and support the implementation of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) for services once live. Secretariat Support

An exciting opportunity has arisen to take on a high-profile, diverse and challenging role as a core part of HSE’s dedicated Board Secretariat function. You will have the opportunity to be part of a wide-ranging and autonomous unit that directly interacts with and supports both the Chair and Chief Executive in their strategic and day-to-day capacities.

You will be required to provide high quality, efficient and responsive administrative, organisational, and logistical support to the HSE Board, Executive Committee members, and members of the subcommittees, including but not restricted to Operation and Regulation Committee (ORCo), Portfolio Board (PB), Strategic Design Authority (SDA), Performance Hub, Technical Design Authority (TDA) and Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee (HSW). Booking travel and accommodation with travel itineraries, directions etc. and coordinating travel with others in line with HSE travel policies. Ensuring accurate submission of travel expenses for each Board member, manage Gifts and Hospitality registers, and handle sensitive information.

You will be required to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, organise meetings, source venues, provide support for committees and meetings.

You will support and manage Divisional communication and information systems, including management and oversight of relevant SharePoint sites and CM9.

Building Safety Regulatory Lead

Lead Scientist – Noise/Vibration

Occupational Hygiene Specialist Inspector

As an occupational hygiene specialist inspector, you will be involved in frontline regulatory work and developing technical policy. You will work as a member of a specialist regulatory team, led by a Principal Specialist Inspector, regulating workplaces to ensure that workplace health risks have been identified, evaluated and eliminated or adequately controlled. Specialist Division provides support to the inspectors in HSE’s Inspection and Investigation Divisions who cover many employment sectors including agriculture, general manufacturing, engineering, waste and recycling, education, health services, utilities and transport, government departments and domestic gas safety.

Frontline regulating is managed regionally in geographically dispersed areas across offices in England, Wales and Scotland. You will provide in-depth technical expertise through planned and reactive support to regulatory inspectors gaining occupational hygiene experience across a wide range of issues and industries, whilst developing skills in intervening in businesses and enforcing the law. You may also be asked to provide independent expert witness input to court, securing justice for sufferers of ill health in the workplace.

Developing operational and technical policy is about influencing and raising standards of control and clarifying legal requirements. You will work with others on projects and initiatives to review and inform health and safety policy, developing guidance and identifying any changes needed to expected standards and published information. You will also work with specialist and non-specialist colleagues helping to influence strategic stakeholders and campaigns.

Central Disclosure Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Central Disclosure Officer to join our team and operate in a customer service environment. You will be responsible for logging information requests received by HSE and for making an assessment on the most appropriate disclosure regime including the Data Protection Act (DPA), Freedom of Information Act (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and Civil Procedure Rules. You will also be responsible for providing professional, accurate and consistent responses to customers within statutory deadlines.

The Central Information Disclosure team is part of the Information Governance and Compliance Team within the Health and Safety Executives (HSE) Information Technology and Services Division. The Information Governance and Compliance team have responsibility for managing HSE’s information disclosure service, in addition to several other core functions which includes the Data Protection Officer function, Information Assurance and Security, and the development of an Information Governance framework for HSE.

The role of the Central Disclosure team is to effectively manage a range of information requests from internal and external customers, ensuring that the HSE remains compliant with its statutory obligations under UK information law.

Complaints Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to take on a high-profile, diverse and challenging role as a core part of HSE’s dedicated Complaints and Correspondence function. You will have the opportunity to be part of a wide-ranging and autonomous unit that directly interacts with and supports both the Chair and Chief Executive in their strategic and day-to-day capacities.

You will be required to provide high quality, efficient and responsive administrative and organisational, support to the manager of Complaints, and support the Complaints Manager in our 3 tier complaints procedure as well as being the first point of contact for external and internal queries. You will be required to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring complaints and Chief Executive Official correspondence are handled in an efficient manner, completed within timescale, and documented in the appropriate database adhering to GDPR rules. In doing so you will:

  • Provide support, advice and guidance to HSE colleagues who are preparing complaint/ CEO correspondence.
  • Support the Complaints Manager with reviewing the current process and identifying where the service can be approved.
  • Assist the Complaints Manager in promoting the complaints Process inclusive of but not extensive to: Set up meetings internal and external for the Complaints Manager, provide support on daily basis with Ad-Hoc, presenting presentations to HSE colleagues.
  • Liaise with cross Government complaints teams and attend the six biannual Cross Government Complaints Forum.

HM Principal Specialist Inspector – Mechanical Engineering

A key operational arm of HSE, the Chemicals, Explosives and Microbiological Hazards Division (CEMHD) regulates the UK’s major hazard industries – companies whose products are essential to our everyday life, but where failures in safety management and risk control can lead to catastrophic harm to workers and the public at large. Employing around 300 professional engineers and scientists across a wide range of disciplines, we are responsible for securing safety across a range of industries including energy production (oil, gas and emerging technologies), chemical/pharmaceutical production and storage, as well as explosive manufacture and installations that work with biological agents.

You will be accountable to CEMHD’s Head of Unit 1 for securing the reduction of risk and improvement in health and safety standards by applying a sound operational regulatory and technical expertise, ensuring the timely delivery of quality work in accordance with current procedures.

The role also requires making a corporate contribution particularly in the development of the wider ME group, the continuous improvement of CEMHD, national strategies and change programmes. You will be expected to represent HSE and maintain and promote HSE’s standing with stakeholders and other external bodies.

This post carries a significant workload and may require frequent travel and overnight stays, also requiring a high level of personal responsibility for discipline leadership and decision making. You will therefore have extensive experience and authoritative knowledge of primary containment and integrity management associated with the onshore chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry sectors.

Specialist Inspector (Human Factors Engineering) Chemicals, Explosives and Microbiological Hazards Division

Within the Chemical Explosives and Microbiological Hazards Division (CEMHD) of HSE, our Human Factors Specialists ensure employers across Great Britain work safely – touching on a whole range of essential industries with thousands of workers. Job description

The role will predominantly involve you undertaking site inspections, as well as assessing the adequacy of safety reports for upper tier COMAH sites.  You will also be part of investigation teams seeking out accident and incident root causes, and identifying recommendations to ensure that lessons are learned. Part of your role will require you to act as an expert witness, giving your specialist opinion on human factors aspects of accidents and incidents.

You will be required to contribute to the production and revision of HF guidance and standards for HSE and other industry bodies and will be required to prioritise continuing professional development for yourself and other members of the HF Team.

On joining HSE, all new specialist inspectors are required to complete a 2-year Specialist Training Programme (STP). This two-year programme comprises of both in depth legal training and assessments and any further technical training that may be required.
