These are high profile positions in the team with responsibility for helping set and drive delivery of web design and content strategy. You will need to be comfortable working independently working on a range of communication technologies.

Reporting to the Head of Function you will:

• Provide design input and hands-on interaction or front-end design for complex projects and portfolios of work
• Deliver designs and services that provide an integrated and consistent experience for users
• Gain a good understanding of user needs and how to meet them
• Analyse user research and usability testing, iterating design based on user feedback and analysis
• Take complex information and processes, and working with content designers to make them simple to understand and use
• Produce and implement design concepts working to tight deadlines

DevOps Engineer Apprenticeship

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit for a Band 5/EO DevOps Engineer Apprentices to join the ITS Division to undergo a Level 4 DevOps Engineer Apprenticeship.

You will be supported from day one for your learning and development into this role, ensuring you are supported every step of the way in completing your apprenticeship and getting the experience you need to excel in your new role. Over time, you will grow into your skillset and role and be able to take ownership and responsibility for certain business processes in-line with your development.

As a DevOps Engineer Apprentice, you will thrive and enjoy working openly, collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on one or many projects. You will be supporting existing cloud-based services, assisting in the design, and delivery of new cloud-based services as we expand HSE’s digital services in Azure, adhering to GDS principles and using Agile principles.

You will deliver Development Operations (DevOps) Engineering for all HSE cloud-infrastructure services ensuring that all technologies (cloud-network, cloud-hosting (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS), cloud-storage and cloud-security) remain available, performant to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and relevant to business requirements. Deliver the DevOps Engineering support to major digital and technology services change programmes transforming HSE, and support the implementation of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) for services once live. Operate and deliver the processes, architectures, and services that will deliver all of HSE digital and technology services. Ensure that new cloud-based technologies are secure by design and remain secure during operations, protecting HSE’s data and users from cyber-attack and unauthorised loss. This role will engage with users, supporting their needs and ensuring that a high-quality customer-focused service is delivered.

Product Safety Intelligence Officer

You will undertake a range of work to support the operational policy, intelligence gathering and administrative support to ensure the effective regulation of workplace product safety.

We are looking for someone with a good understanding and experience of managing databases, spreadsheets and case management systems and a thorough knowledge of the Product Safety regulatory framework.

You will be part of a team that works together to provide support for a number of workstreams within the Product Safety and Market Surveillance Unit including triage of concerns and queries from a number of sources, development of internal procedures, continued growth for intelligence capabilities to underpin future interventions and cross-government working.

This post offers significant development, providing insight to and experience of business assurance, intelligence management, Health and Safety policy and Product Safety operational policy development, working collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners.

Paralegal Officer (LSD Band 5/EO)

The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting a Paralegal to join the Legal Services Division. The successful candidate will join a small and expanding team within the division, working on the Building Safety Regulator function of the HSE. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new regulatory regime and to and support the new team in providing legal advice and assistance on this crucial new regulatory role for HSE.

The work of the legal team will be wide ranging, interesting and challenging, including both criminal and civil proceedings, appeals against civil sanctions in the context of regulation of the building control profession, and supporting BSR’s role as a statutory consultee in planning applications and Inquiries.  Those involved will be playing a key role in contributing to the protection of people in the places they live and work.

Science Quality Assurance Group

In spring 2023 HSE published its new strategy “Protecting People and Places: HSE Strategy
2022 to 2032”. This details the broad remit HSE has to protect workers across Great Britain,
to protect residents in high rise building as the new Building Safety Regulator and to protect
people and the environment through its Chemical Regulation responsibilities.

SQAG was a new group established in January 2023 which provides the HSE Chair, Board,
Chief Executive and HSE Director of Science/Director of Science Chief Scientific Adviser
with independent and objective assurance on the relevance and quality of the science,
engineering and evidence produced across HSE which is commissioned and delivered in
support of HSE’s strategy and plans. This Group undertakes in-depth reviews of research
and analysis conducted by HSE to provide an assurance function; it does not consider HSE
policy or regulatory activities, and it has no decision-making powers.
Appointments to SQAG will normally be for four years and may be extended.

Diving Technical Specialist

We have an exciting position for a Band 3/SEO Diving Technical Specialist which will appeal to individuals with a practical, technical background in the diving industry.

You will be required to deliver work to support diving investigations and liaising with HSE specialist diving inspectors. This will include performing visual inspections of diving plant/equipment and conducting objective testing on breathing gases, and diving equipment such as regulators and hats/full face masks. There will be a requirement to provide proactive assistance with testing of diving plant against national/internal standards, as required.

You will be expected to work with others in HSE’s Energy Division and the wider HSE. You will be self-motivated and strive for quality outcomes. You will need to, under challenge, think strategically and engage at different levels with technical, regulatory and policy colleagues within the organisation. This role requires stakeholder engagement with external agencies and collaborative working. You will work with others to ensure the timely delivery of HSE’s investigation, research and commercial work. You will be expected to work with and assist colleagues not only across the Health Group but also across HSE as part of their programmes of work.

Occupational Health Specialist Inspector (FOD Band 3/SEO)

Your work as a regulator will make the most of your experience in occupational health – identifying risks, providing the right advice and crucially – taking steps to ensure the employer takes the necessary action. You could be inspecting the management of health risks in an engineering firm, investigating a report of occupational disease in a bakery, taking enforcement action when required. Your work will take you across the range of industries from construction, manufacturing and engineering, to agriculture, waste and recycling or the public sector.

This role will broaden your knowledge and your professional credibility like no other role can and you will be fully supported by your colleagues including the widest range of health and safety experts in Britain.

You will be office-based but as part of your role, you will be required to inspect and visit sites across Great Britain. This will require regular travel and overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities
• Leading and/or supporting investigation of work related ill-health concerns and reportable diseases to identify the cause and where necessary, take appropriate enforcement action to control the risks
• Inspecting a variety of workplaces, either on your own or supporting another inspector to make sure health risks are managed safely, driving improvements and taking enforcement action where required to secure compliance with the law
• Advising other HSE colleagues about OH and how conditions compare with minimum legal requirements and good practice
• Providing specialist support to guide enforcement decisions and specialist opinion in reports
• Contributing to policy work and guidance in relevant priority areas by sharing information and advice with policy colleagues
• Contributing as a member of the occupational health team to promote occupational health at relevant UK forums as well internally, for example, coaching trainee H&S inspectors, and
• You will be expected to appear as specialist / expert witness at tribunals, inquests and legal proceedings.
