The Head of Performance role within Director of Regulation’s Divisional Support Unit acts as the single point of contact within Divisional Support Unit for delivery and performance reporting to 3 Operational Divisions’ Senior Leadership Teams and Director of Regulation Office. This is an influential and high profile role within HSE’s operational Divisions providing high quality workload and performance reporting to 3 operational divisions.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Leading the production, analysis and narratives for a range of weekly and monthly standardised reports and operational delivery dashboards to; Divisional, Unit and Group level to support effective workload management and management of performance against a range of Key Performance Indicators across a diverse range of regulatory processes/activities.
  • Development of bespoke divisional performance reporting to enable a suite of reporting for regulatory processes supporting achievement of KPI’s to supplement and adapt reporting available on HSE corporate systems (e.g. gathering and reporting projected reporting against KPI’s)
  • Direct the provision of Divisional level management information for Divisional Senior Leadership Teams and Director of Regulation presenting trends and lead indicators for regulatory processes underpinning achievement of KPI.
  • Support Divisional Support Team Band 2 in identifying the scope and design of deep dives into regulatory processes and lead on production of comprehensive analysis and discussion at a senior level in order to identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Act as main point of contact with business intelligence community to ensure provision of corporate data meets the needs of divisional reporting across 3 operational divisions including the development and validation of bespoke data sets.

Head of IT Service Management

The Information and Technology Services (ITS) Division is responsible for delivering all IT Services to enable HSE to deliver its strategic and delivery plans. An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the HSE’s IT Service Management Team. HSE’s IT Services have recently transformed, and we are continuing to build in-house capability to give us the skills and experience we need to take our ambitious business plans forward. You will manage a blend of insourced and out-sourced teams, to maintain and operate a modern IT estate.

As Head of Service Management, you will be responsible for the overall design and delivery of end-to-end IT services provided to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ensuring excellent customer service. Advisory Lawyer

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is recruiting an Advisory Lawyer to join the Legal Services Division’s expanding team working on the Building Safety Regulator function of HSE.

The work of the BSR legal team is wide ranging, interesting and challenging. It encompasses criminal and civil proceedings, appeals against civil sanctions in the context of regulation of the building control profession, and supporting BSR’s role as a statutory consultee in planning applications and Inquiries. BSR is playing a key role in HSE’s work to ensure people feel safe where they live, where they work, and in the built environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to the organisation on the regulatory framework for the BSR on a wide range of topics, including operational and policy issues
  • Handle your own caseload of enforcement cases, providing advice on investigations, making the decisions to proceed and conducting any resulting court proceedings (civil and criminal)
  • Respond to appeals (in the First Tier Tribunal) against enforcement notices issued by the BSR.
  • Work with senior legal, operational and policy colleagues to implement and manage the enforcement of the BSR regime and contribute to shaping and designing new processes to support collaborative working
  • Contribute to work with legal professionals in the Government Legal Department on wider policy aspects of the BSR
  • Contribute to the devising and delivery of relevant legal training and the delivery of written legal guidance on the BSR’s remit

Scientist – Noise / Vibration (SD Band 4/HEO)

Lead Scientist – Noise / Vibration (Band 3/SEO)

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Physicist, Acoustician or allied scientific discipline with experience and understanding of human exposure to noise / vibration in the workplace or in the wider environment to join the Exposure Assessment and Control (EAC) Team at the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

Exposure Assessment and Control is part of HSE Science Divisions’ Health Group whose purpose is to prevent worker ill health caused by exposure to chemical, physical and biological hazards.

In this role you will develop and manage the portfolio of research and scientific support in noise and vibration that underpins HSE’s guidance and regulatory approach.

  • Develop and lead the delivery of a portfolio of work for HSE and other stakeholders on noise and vibration exposure and control in humans within the wider context of workplace health risk management. Pesticides Operational Support Team Leader

Within our Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) we have an opportunity for a Band 5 team leader in our Pesticides Operational Support Team (POST), who will principally work with colleagues in POST and also support specialists and leaders in HSE concerning Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs). This is an exciting opportunity that requires working alongside a number of stakeholders including those working in Chemistry specialisms, Stakeholder Engagement, as well as DEFRA and relevant competent authorities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the MRL tracker document and keeping it up to date.
  • Producing and reviewing publications such as e-bulletins and ensuring ready for HSE Communications Team.
  • Co-ordinating the inputs from the various teams involved, including the Pesticides Delivery Team and the MRL scientific team.
  • Managing and developing a B6 to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the MRL support function.
  • Providing information and data to the EU on behalf of NI.

Senior Regulatory Chemist

This is an exciting time to join Chemical Regulations Division (CRD) with opportunities to develop and shape our regulatory schemes for the future. Our primary role is to deliver regulatory schemes intended to protect the health of people and the environment, balancing the economic and social benefits that chemicals offer to society and helping to ensure the safe and sustainable use of chemicals. We also have a role through guidance, partnership working and leadership to raise awareness and promote behaviour change to help improve the control of hazardous substances in the workplace.

In this role you will focus on the evaluation of data on the physical and chemical properties, the analytical methods and residues of pesticides and biocides active substances and products. This will include the assessment of  data in order to carry out consumer dietary exposure assessments and set MRLs (Maximum Residue Levels).

As a Senior Regulatory Chemist, you will manage, mentor and support members of the team, provide peer review of work, lead on specific technical aspects, and provide advice to specialist and policy colleagues and wider stakeholders. There will also be opportunities for you to lead for HSE on national and global activities, to ensure we keep pace with new and emerging issues.

Administrative Support – Pesticides Operational Support Team

We currently have two vacancies within our Pesticide Operational Support Team.

You could be working in a team supporting scientists with their work or responding to requests from stakeholders on their applications.

These posts give you the opportunity to support scientific staff on progressing the authorisation of applications for the approval of pesticides or industrial chemicals and managing the delivery of approval/authorisation of pesticide active substances and products.

We also have teams involved in the evaluation of data submitted in support of applications for approval of pesticides in the UK.

As an Administrative Support Officer your responsibilities will include:

• You will be responsible for the receipt of applications, authorisation processing and issuing invoices.
• You will assist in maintaining quality in authorisation, amendment and withdrawal notices issued following applications from the pesticides industry decisions.
