CAT is a face paced, customer facing, high volume, operational front-line team. We are the first point of contact with the organisation.

The role provides first point of contact with a wide range of customers, and we require candidates to deliver excellent customer service on behalf of the organisation. The successful candidate will handle between 40 to 60 telephone calls per day, provide administrative support for the team, liaise with external and internal stakeholders and be a vibrant part of a front-line service.

This is a frontline post and require candidates to be able to deal with challenging and sometimes difficult conversations that can be emotional and highly charged. The team have procedures and support mechanisms in place to handle such calls, but candidates will need to be resilient and confident, use their own initiative but work well as part of a team.

The Socioeconomic Analysis Team is responsible for providing high- quality economic advice and analysis to ensure that chemicals are regulated in line with legislative requirements and safety standards.
You will work in areas such as regulatory economics, impact assessment and cost benefit analysis, collaborating with scientists, policy advisors, and operational delivery teams on regulatory issues related to chemicals. Your primary tasks will be related to assessing and scrutinising the socioeconomic impact of proposals to regulate chemicals under the new UK Chemicals Regime (UK REACH). The scale and scope of questions that the economic analyst may have to deal with will vary, but will primarily be related to the costs and benefits of chemicals regulation and the technical and economic feasibility of alternatives and substitution of chemicals of concern.

You will be expected to explain your decisions internally and externally, to Expert Committees, other government departments and relevant stakeholders. You will have experience of applying economic thinking to complex situations and developing analysis to address policy questions. This will include writing technical reports and communicating complex analysis effectively and clearly to stakeholders, as well as developing an understanding of the relevant science and legislation related to chemicals and regulatory decision making. We are looking for a Bio Scientist who has the necessary skills for actively contributing to the design and delivery of a diverse range of laboratory-based research activities related to occupational exposure to biohazardous materials, primarily in the fields of virology and microbiology. You will lead and contribute to research projects for both HSE and commercial customers and you will need to, under challenge, think strategically and engage at different levels with scientific peers, regulatory and policy colleagues and at senior levels within the organisation.

The work will also contribute to incident investigations and provide innovative support to both industry and HSE research projects, with the aim to prevent death, injury and ill-health of workers and those affected by work activities.

There will be occasions when you will be expected to travel for site visits and meetings, as well as the opportunity for attendance at conferences both within and occasionally outside the UK.
