You will provide expert knowledge and experience of chemicals exposure assessment and appropriate control approaches to support the development of regulatory positions on chemicals and decision making in our national regulatory schemes, especially REACH. This may include consumer exposure, although the main aspect for this post will relate to occupational exposure assessment. You will take account of exposure data and apply appropriate exposure modelling tools, as appropriate.

Head of Reward, HR Policy and Employee Relations (HRD Band 2 Grade 6)

Independent Members of the Health and Safety Executive’s Science, Engineering and Evidence Assurance Committee

4-year appointment starting in April 2021

Location: England, Wales, Scotland
Remuneration: £4,000 (honorarium payment) plus reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses.

There is an opportunity for experienced scientists or engineers to provide assurance to the HSE Board about HSE’s science strategy and the scientific work that it does, as members of a Science, Engineering and Evidence Assurance Committee (SEEAC).

HSE is looking for applications from people who have substantial experience of leading and managing research programmes and who have wide experience of working across the scientific community in a leadership role. All members should have a high level of expertise and be recognised as leaders in their fields. It is anticipated that this role would involve a maximum of 10 days per year.

Members are normally required to prepare for and attend up to four Committee Sessions each year (at which deep dives are conducted) and to attend occasional ad hoc short meetings. However, at present meetings are held on-line, are shorter and more frequent, and SEEAC will adjust its modus operandi to reflect advice on management of the COVID-19 pandemic, returning to face-to-face meetings as and when appropriate.

Product Safety Operations Officer (EPD Band 3/SEO)

This is an exciting time to be joining the new Product Safety and Market Surveillance Team in Safety Unit and offers many opportunities to develop a range of skills. Safety Unit is HSE’s strategic point of contact for technical policy and operational support on the safe design, manufacture, supply and use of workplace machinery and equipment. Safety Unit leads on implementation of product legislation on the supply of machinery, electrical equipment, gas appliances, pressure equipment, cableways, lifts, PPE, ATEX equipment and for HSWA Section 6 for work products not otherwise covered. The future international aspect of our work will continue to support collaboration with international regulators to ensure an effective approach to market surveillance and support trade negotiations.

Customer Service Apprentice Basingstoke (FOD Band 6/AO – FTA 16 Months)

Operational support staff contribute to the delivery of the Strategy by supporting the work of HSE Inspectors across a range of industries including Manufacturing, Construction, Chemicals and Energy. The support is delivered through a range of established and developing procedures.

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study towards a related vocational qualification, assessed in the workplace by our training provider. As part of your apprenticeship you will need to gather work-based evidence, whilst working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills as well as an understanding about the world of employment. All assessments and teaching will take place either on the job or at designated workshops, which may involve some travel to other HSE offices.

Successful candidates will work towards an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service, which will take approximately 16 months to complete. We require individuals who are serious about working in a customer service role and can show the required determination to complete their apprenticeship programme.
