The Toxicology Team is mainly responsible for the assessment of the human health hazards and risks of a range of chemicals, including general chemicals, pesticides and biocides and their formulations. These are performed to ensure these chemicals are regulated in line with legislative requirements and safety standards.
Our Senior Regulatory Toxicologists have considerable knowledge of the regulation of chemicals and extensive experience of regulatory science, including scientific writing, regulatory decision making, working with national and international legislation, communicating with stakeholders and representational roles in different fora.

Business Support Staff Team Leader

We help businesses and people understand how the laws to keep people safe at work affect them and provide guidance on what to do. To help us achieve this we employ the largest number of health and safety experts in the country, including frontline inspectors, specialists, policy delivery teams, economists, lawyers and support workers, all working together to help protect people.

As a Business Support Team Leader, you will manage a team of office-based support staff who provide business support to frontline inspectors and specialists. As a line manager you will need to lead and develop your team to be confident in dealing with a range of tasks associated with delivering HSE’s business related to workplace inspection, incident investigation and enforcement action.

Customer Service Apprentice – Fixed Term Appointment

Our Operational support staff contribute to the delivery of the Strategy by supporting the work of HSE Inspectors across a range of industries including Manufacturing, Construction, Chemicals and Energy. The support is delivered through a range of established and developing procedures.

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study towards a related vocational qualification, assessed in the workplace by our training provider. As part of your apprenticeship you will need to gather work-based evidence, whilst working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills as well as an understanding about the world of employment.

Band 3 Product Safety Operations Officer

We are looking for people who have experience of product safety and market surveillance, to work as part of a busy operations team.

In this role you will directly influence duty holders, work with HSE Inspectors, other Market Surveillance Authorities and stakeholders. There is a need to possess or rapidly acquire an understanding and knowledge of relevant operational procedures. This post offers significant development, providing insight to, and experience of operational interventions and policy, and in working collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners and stakeholders.

The post holder will require flexibility to adapt to new challenges – as the Product Safety and Market Surveillance Team grows to develop new investigation tools and techniques.

Chief Inspector of Buildings (SCS PB2)

This is a new post, offering an unparalleled opportunity to lead a dynamic team shaping and implementing a new regulatory system for the safety and standard of buildings.

As Chief Inspector of Buildings, you will be the face and voice of the new regulator. You will be passionate about working with the construction industry, residents and other regulators to improve practice and culture; confident about acting as the head of profession for building control professionals and, as a member of HSE’s Executive Committee – you will work closely with your fellow directors and with HSE’s Non-Executive Board to set and achieve HSE’s broader strategic ambitions.

Administration Officer
