We are looking for talented IT professionals, you will utilise and develop your IT skills in making a difference to GB Health and Safety. We currently have a number challenging and varied roles which will make a significant contribution to our business. The roles will be part of the wider ITF division, based in Bootle (Merseyside) or York. In normal circumstances will require some travel to other locations.

You will join the existing IT Information Systems Team as an Application Operations Engineer, working in a team responsible for both supporting applications and working with our supplier in delivering application maintenance & support services to best practice principles You will also contribute to continually improving the service. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic role at the core of HSE’s Information Systems Processes.

OPS – Call handler (Band 6/AO)

The position advertised is within the HSE Customer Services Concerns and Advice Team (CAT) based in Bootle. We contribute to HSE’s mission to ensure that people’s health and safety from work activities are properly managed and controlled. For CAT this means working with employers to better manage risk and protect people at work.

CAT is a face paced, customer facing, high volume, operational front-line team. We are the first point of contact with the organisation.

The role provides first point of contact with a wide range of customers, and we require candidates to deliver excellent customer service on behalf of the organisation. The successful candidate will handle between 40 to 60 telephone calls per day, provide administrative support for the team, liaise with external and internal stakeholders and be a vibrant part of a front-line service.

This is a frontline post and require candidates to be able to deal with challenging and sometimes difficult conversations that can be emotional and highly charged. The team have procedures and support mechanisms in place to handle such calls, but candidates will need to be resilient and confident, use their own initiative but work well as part of a team.

SD – Personal Assistant to the Chief Scientific Adviser and Chief Medical Adviser (Band 5/EO)

As Personal Assistant to the Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) and Chief Medical Adviser (CMA) you will be responsible for managing the smooth running of diaries and monitoring emails for the CSA and CMA as well as their national and international travel, accommodation and expenses.

BSR – Learning and Development Specialist – Digital (Band 3/SEO)

It is an exciting time to join us. HSE, in conjunction with MHCLG, is establishing and will operate a new Building Safety Regulator responsible for implementing and enforcing a more stringent regulatory regime for high-rise buildings and increasing the competence of those working on building safety following the Grenfell tragedy. In addition, as UK prepares for the end of the Transition Period of exiting the EU, HSE is in the process of setting up a stand-alone Chemicals Regulator. Both programmes will require complex and comprehensive learning and development solutions which will need to satisfy both technical and behavioural needs. This role sits within the HSE’s Human Resources Division (HRD).

Economic Analyst (CRD Band 3/SEO)

The Socioeconomic Analysis Team is responsible for providing high- quality economic advice and analysis to ensure that chemicals are regulated in line with legislative requirements and safety standards.
You will work in areas such as regulatory economics, impact assessment and cost benefit analysis, collaborating with scientists, policy advisors, and operational delivery teams on regulatory issues related to chemicals. Your primary tasks will be related to assessing and scrutinising the socioeconomic impact of proposals to regulate chemicals under the new UK Chemicals Regime (UK REACH). The scale and scope of questions that the economic analyst may have to deal with will vary, but will primarily be related to the costs and benefits of chemicals regulation and the technical and economic feasibility of alternatives and substitution of chemicals of concern.

You will be expected to explain your decisions internally and externally, to Expert Committees, other government departments and relevant stakeholders. You will have experience of applying economic thinking to complex situations and developing analysis to address policy questions. This will include writing technical reports and communicating complex analysis effectively and clearly to stakeholders, as well as developing an understanding of the relevant science and legislation related to chemicals and regulatory decision making. SD – Occupational Health Bio Scientist (Virology, Microbiology, Immunology) – (Band 4/HEO)

We are looking for a Bio Scientist who has the necessary skills for actively contributing to the design and delivery of a diverse range of laboratory-based research activities related to occupational exposure to biohazardous materials, primarily in the fields of virology and microbiology. You will lead and contribute to research projects for both HSE and commercial customers and you will need to, under challenge, think strategically and engage at different levels with scientific peers, regulatory and policy colleagues and at senior levels within the organisation.

The work will also contribute to incident investigations and provide innovative support to both industry and HSE research projects, with the aim to prevent death, injury and ill-health of workers and those affected by work activities.

There will be occasions when you will be expected to travel for site visits and meetings, as well as the opportunity for attendance at conferences both within and occasionally outside the UK.

Invoicing, Debt Recovery and Project Accounting Team Leader

We are recruiting a team leader for the Buxton based Invoicing, Debt Recovery and Project Accounting team. This role is part of the corporate finance team and reports directly to the Head of Cost Recovery and Expenses Team which is part of HSE’s Planning, Finance and Procurement Division (PFPD). It is based at HSE’s Science and Research Centre and provides vital support to HSE’s projects that develop evidence based regulatory policy, understand why accidents happen and HSE’s commercial activities. We are looking for someone with a finance background, is self-motivated and has a proven track record in challenging existing practices and delivering change.

The role includes working closely with senior staff involved in the various scientific and commercial functions to ensure customer invoices are raised accurately and efficiently, treasury management action is taken in a timely manner and debts are chased in accordance with HSE’s Debt Strategy.

Band 3 – Management Accountant

You will support the Head of Finance, providing expert advice on a range of budgeting and accounting issues, ensuring HSE complies with HMT’s Consolidated Budgeting guidance and Managing Public Money.

You will use sound knowledge and expertise in financial management, control and reporting to help prepare HSE’s overall budget and forecast each month.

You will play a central role assisting with detailed quarterly financial performance reviews to ensure ExCo have high quality information to base their decisions.

Key to the above is the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across HSE, ensuring information is accurate and assumptions are analysed and appropriately challenged.
You will have excellent communication, analytical and decision-making skills which will enable you to operate in a dynamic environment working to tight deadlines. You will have coaching and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage your team.
You will be articulate with excellent influencing and interpersonal skills to enable you to work with the team and across the business to assist PFPD deliver a high-quality finance function.

IT Asset Analyst

We are looking for talented IT professionals.

You will be involved in the coordination, integration and continuous service improvement of how HSE manages IT assets. Whilst this post is within an IT environment, previous IT knowledge is not essential.

You will be a member of ITF’s Asset Management team and will be expected to manage the asset lifecycle from requirements definition, to procurement, operation and disposal for both hardware and software.
