The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to join our expanding Human Resources Division.

As an HR Business Partner (HRBP), you will be the face of HR for the business. This is a key role working alongside senior leaders in which you will be required to utilise your influencing skills and provide constructive challenge to plan, prioritise and progress HR and Workforce strategies which are aligned to HSE’s recently published 10-year strategy ‘Protecting People and Places 2022-2032’.

You will have regular contact with the wider HR team and will need to use your expertise to gain credibility from day one, enabling you to able to build strong and trusted relationships with the Directors and senior teams who lead the HSE Division(s) you will support.

The role offers the full HRBP remit, ranging from strategic workforce planning, advising on organisational and structural change and performance, and translating business needs into HR solutions. You will be highly business focused, have a proven track record of establishing personal credibility through effective delivery. You will also be able to demonstrate excellent relationship management skills and can coach and influence at senior levels.

Deputy Director, Field Operations Division

The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting an experienced Deputy Director to join our Field Operations Division (FOD). You will be part of a team that is delivering HSE’s objectives.

As the Deputy Director of FOD you will be providing strong leadership to, and management of, the regulatory units and support workforce, inspiring our people and developing their capability as well as driving a culture of teamwork, high performance and continuous improvement.

You will also develop and deliver an agreed annual programme of work that assures the effective management and control of occupational safety and health risks by duty holders and maintains public confidence in HSE and the regulatory system. Additionally, you will be establishing and maintaining external networks, including with the devolved administrations in Wales, as part of wider HSE engagement activities to promote partnerships to deliver regulatory objectives and HSE strategic goals.

Senior Regulatory Scientists – REACH and CLP Delivery Teams

The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting experienced Senior Regulatory Scientists to join our expanding Chemical Regulations Division. You will be part of a team that is delivering HSE’s objectives. The UK having left the EU offers an exciting opportunity to develop and shape our regulatory schemes for the future.

You will be part of a team delivering HSE’s objectives fulfilling its role as the Agency for UK REACH and CLP. These aspects include: registration; dossier and substance evaluation; authorisation; restriction, analysis of risk management options and Classification and Labelling proposals.

You will be one of a number of team leaders responsible for coordinating processes and/or projects, providing guidance and delivering training to internal and external stakeholders on all aspects of the regulations. You may also be expected to represent the team at national and international meetings.

A further key aspect of this role will be the management and development of a team of other scientific staff. This will include identifying training needs, making proposals for training solutions and taking a leading role in the provision of training.

Senior Regulatory Scientists – Pesticide Delivery Team

The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting experienced Senior Regulatory Scientists to join our Pesticides Delivery Team within our expanding Chemical Regulations Division. As a Senior Regulatory Scientist you will be responsible for technical input to applications to support regulatory decisions on pesticides in the UK. You will be required to analyse key information in relation to complex and challenging situations to make important decisions in relation to the approval and authorisation of pesticides. You will also be expected to explain your decisions internally and externally, to Independent Scientists (e.g. expert and independent committees), other government departments and relevant stakeholders.

Senior Regulatory Chemists

The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting experienced Senior Regulatory Chemists to join our expanding Chemical Regulations Division. You will be part of a team that is delivering HSE’s objectives. The UK having left the EU offers an exciting opportunity to develop and shape our regulatory schemes for the future.

In this role you will focus on the evaluation of data on the physical and chemical properties, the analytical methods and consumer risk assessment of active substances and products. The evaluations will include residues data for both pesticides and biocide active substances, methods of analysis, plant and animal metabolism data and residues in food and feed to carry out consumer dietary exposure assessments and set MRLs (Maximum Residue Levels).

As a senior regulatory chemist, you will mentor and support members of the team, provide peer review of work, lead on specific technical aspects, and provide advice to specialist and policy colleagues and wider stakeholders. There will also be opportunities for you to lead for HSE on national and global activities, to ensure we keep pace with new and emerging issues.

Administrative Support – Various Roles

At the Chemical Regulations Division (CRD), we work with one goal in mind – to protect human health and the environment from the effects of potentially harmful substances.

To help us meet these challenges, we have up to 7 opportunities for administrative staff at AO/Band 6 level in a range of different teams.

We currently have vacancies within our:
Plant Protection Products (PPP) teams
Evidence and New Technologies team

You could be working in a team supporting scientists with their work, responding to requests from stakeholders on their applications or working within a policy function.

Many of the posts give you the opportunity to support scientific staff on progressing the authorisation of applications for the approval of pesticides or industrial chemicals and managing the delivery of approval/authorisation of pesticide active substances and products.

We also have teams involved in the evaluation of data submitted in support of applications for approval of pesticides in the UK.

In addition, you will be supporting and working with policy makers on the provision of regulatory advice and guidance and working with a range of external stakeholders inside and outside of the UK.

Senior Regulatory Efficacy Biocides Specialist

Senior Regulatory Ecotoxicologists

The Health and Safety Executive is recruiting experienced Senior Regulatory Ecotoxicologists to join our expanding Chemical Regulations Division. Ecotoxicologists evaluate data from standard regulatory studies on the toxicity of pesticides, biocides or other chemicals to a wide range of non-target organisms such as birds, mammals, aquatic organisms, bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms and soil macro and micro-organisms as well as non-target terrestrial plants. This information, in addition to data on exposure, is used in carrying out the associated regulatory environmental risk assessments.

You will mentor and support members of the team, provide peer review of work, lead on specific technical aspects including the development of new guidance, and provide advice to specialist and policy colleagues and wider stakeholders.

Central Disclosure Officer

We are looking for a motivated, dedicated and customer focused individual to join the team to play an important role in ensuring that HSE provides professional and legally compliant responses to any requests for information, ensuring information is handled compliantly within statutory deadlines.

As a Central Disclosure Officer, your role is to manage requests for information that need to be considered under a number of disclosure regimes including Data Protection (DPA), Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and Civil Procedure Rules, providing accurate and consistent responses to customers within internal and statutory deadlines.

You will be responsible for logging requests that are received and making an assessment on the most appropriate regime to handle them. You will work collaboratively with internal and external customers to obtain accurate and relevant information. You will ensure that responses are compliant with internal processes and prepare responses for release to the customer, securing approval, as required, before issuing it.
