This is an exciting opportunity to work in HSE’s central finance division (PFPD), a dynamic and fast-paced team at the core of the organization and you will work closely with stakeholders across HSE. This role is key to ensuring effective financial operations, driving improvements, and supporting the organization’s goals through collaboration and innovation.

The primary purpose of this role is to deliver the expenses and debt recovery activity. The role involves various expenses related tasks including checking, reviewing policy and reporting activities. The role will also provide an escalation point for debt recovery activity.

You will have direct responsibility for the delivery of the expenses related activity resulting from the increase in travel related to the Building Safety Division (BSD) and to ensure compliance with current guidelines.

Previous experience of Expenses and Debt recovery is required.

Manufacturing Technician

We are looking for a Manufacturing Technician to join the Technical Support Team. This exciting opportunity will be based at the HSE Science and Research Centre, our research laboratory and unique outdoor testing facilities, in Buxton, Derbyshire.

The Technical Support Team is part of the Major Hazards Group in the Science Division of HSE. The Major Hazards Group has several teams of scientists and engineers in areas including fire and explosions, hazardous materials, mechanical engineering, and materials science. These teams work on research relating to the safety of new technologies such as green energy and batteries, as well as investigating incidents. The team supports the group and the wider HSE in a range of ways including building test equipment for research projects and incident investigations, and collecting and managing evidence from incident sites. This makes the job varied and interesting.

Senior Research and Policy Officer – Structural Safety

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Band 3/SEO Senior Research and Policy Officer to join our team in Building Safety Division (BSD) within HSE.

The Building Safety Division is the Government’s technical authority on buildings. As part of its duties to keep the safety and standard of buildings under review the regulator develops the technical standards for buildings including the full suite of Approved Documents.

For this role we are looking for a technical policy advisor to assist in the development of policy in relation to the structural safety of buildings. The successful candidate will help manage research and draft revisions to support the update of the statutory guidance to Building Regulations on structural safety. They will also be helping provide advice within the Building Safety Division and wider government on emerging structural safety matters.

Senior End User Computing Engineer

Technology, data, and digital services underpins everything that HSE does. We are a knowledge organisation, with a wealth of experience in keeping people safe. It is the responsibility of the Information and Technology Services (ITS) Division to ensure that everyone in the organisation can access our data and information, to share it and to use it to make effective decisions. We support over 3000 colleagues working in a hybrid style at home and in 26 offices across Great Britain. Our services keep inspectors functioning effectively and efficiently on industrial sites nationwide, from oil platforms in the North Sea to our deepest mines and quarries.

You will lead the End User Computing (EUC) Team and manage the HSE’s End User Computing estate (Tablets/laptops/PCs, virtual desktop and smartphones), ensuring that the EUC environment remains available, performant to SLAs/OLAs and relevant to business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the EUC Team, including line management of one or more team members. Deputise for the Lead Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Lead and deliver the highest standards of user and customer focus, ensuring that services are delivered to user/customer satisfaction. Endeavour to routinely communicate with users/customers to promote confidence the incidents and requests are being progressed.
  • Monitor and operate the HSE End User Computing environment, ensuring services remain available 24/7/365, performant to SLAs/OLAs, and delivering a good user and customer experience.
  • Lead the management of device deployment using remote deployment techniques (Windows AutoPilot/InTune).
  • Lead on packaging, releasing and updating applications deployed to EUDs.
  • Lead the delivery of event, incident, problem, capacity and change management by the EUC Team following ITIL principles.
  • Plan, implement and monitor upgrades to the EUC environment, coordinating change activity, engaging with users and ensuring that upgrades are understood and appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate configuration management and asset information for the EUC environment.
  • Lead on the ensuring the security of the EUC environment, defending against cyber-attack, preventing unauthorised access, unauthorised data exchange and data-loss.

Triage Support Officer

This role will involve working as part of a virtual centralised triage team, alongside Band 5 Triage Officers and Principal Inspectors. The Band 6 Triage Support Officer (TSO) will be involved in the pre-triage assessment of reports made under Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) and providing administrative support to the RIDDOR triage team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accessing RIDDOR and processing reports from the RIDDOR database.
  • Assessing the information contained in the RIDDOR report and making decisions about whether HSE is the relevant regulator and  whether the report meets the RIDDOR reporting criteria.
  • Assessing whether pre-filter criteria apply to the incident.
  • Discussing risk factor categorisation decisions with the Principal Inspector, where decisions are difficult and/or require a higher degree of regulatory knowledge.
  • Applying the pre-triage part of the risk-based decision model to the RIDDOR, and accurately recording the risk factor categorisation decisions within the RIDDOR tracker.
  • Creating investigation cases on HSE’s case management system for those incidents as requested by Triage Officers.
