HSE’s Mechanical Engineering Specialists investigate incidents, inspect workplaces, advise on safety benchmarks, and enforce the law. We explain why the most serious work-related incidents happen and identify their underlying causes, applying the legal systems of Scotland, England, and Wales, securing justice for the victims and their families through providing factual and expert evidence in Criminal Courts, Coroners’ Inquests, and Fatal Accident Inquiries.
As the Principal Mechanical Specialist Inspector – Team Leader, you will be based in HSE’s Specialist Division. You will be responsible for leading and managing up to 8 chartered mechanical engineers based in various offices across the country. This job of the team leader is to lead and manage mechanical engineering specialists, acting as the team’s focal point for staff communication, welfare and technical guidance, to oversee their support to investigations and inspections from a mechanical engineering perspective, considering geographic factors and relevant technical skills, to deliver business priorities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performance managing and developing the team in varying stages of developing their expertise, including some in the STP, and onboarding new recruits. Collaborative working is essential across the whole of the Electrical and Mechanical unit, to ensure delivery. You will also need to work closely with regulators in Investigation Division and other HSE operational Divisions and LAs; together with acting as liaison to Science Division to agree and monitor workflow.
